Ever Wonder About Kazakhstan?
Have you seen the TV commercials advertising travel to Kazakhstan? The ads show several visual images, and then the word "Wonder".
Since this destination is not one familiar to most U.S. travelers, I have been rather confused as to why these travel commercials are being aired.
Then the country took out a 4 page ad in the New York Times to combat negative images by a recent film release. Was the film the reason millions of dollars are being spent on travel ads? I "WONDER."
Where is Kazakhstan?
The country borders with Russia, China, and the Central Asian countries Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, and has a coastline on the Caspian Sea. The country was a republic in the former Soviet Union, but now a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

What does the country have to offer tourists?
According to the "Welcome to Kakakhstan" site, Forests, Mountains, 11,000 Rivers, 7,000 Lakes, Deserts, and most importantly - the country is rich in natural resources, in fact they have enormous OIL & NATURAL GAS reserves deep in the earth.
Whether Americans start putting the country on their vacation list will have to be seen, but one thing is for sure, American companies are going to help them get those valuable natural resources out of the ground. Read previous posting Condi, Chaney, Kazakhstan and Oil.
The President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, recently met with heads of the biggest U.S. oil and energy companies in Washington.
ExxonMobile reported after the meeting that they were going to become the biggest foreign operator in Kazakhstan by their participation in the development of two fields, as well as the Caspian Pipeline Consortium.
The foreign oil consortium consists of ENI, ExxonMobile, Total and Royal Dutch Shell, ConocoPhillips, Japan's Inpex and along with Kazakhstan's state-owned company.
And Halliburton, a company that we are all familiar with, also has their hands in the pot. But Halliburton is not a newcomer to Kazakhstan, they have been providing intergrated drilling services in the Caspian region since 2002. Currently they have a number of oil & gas industry investment projects in the country.
Another active player is Access Industries, a global, private investment firm, that has vested interests in Kazakhstan. Last year the firm acquired, Basell, the world's largest producer of polypropylene and advanced polyolefins.
These petrochemical products are used in a wide number of applications, for example in the packaging and automotive industries and for consumer goods. Access Industries is working with the government of Kazakhstan to build a four billion dollar world class petrochemical project.
I guess that part of the "WONDER" of Kazakhstan! CT
